Nightmare Pure Stocks-Massey Breaks Through

On a night of first at The Cave Speedway, Brian Massey would add his name to the list of candidates for Rookie Of The Year by topping an impressive 16 car field Saturday night. Budd Ritenauer, looking to make an great night night even better, set fast time with 2.87 seating him on the pole for the first heat. The battle for the lead in the first heat would eventually steal the spotlight however with Greg Hoard and Tyler Williamson fighting it out to the end with Williamson barely edging out Hoard by mere inches. Alan Sagi picked up the win in the second heat leaving the third heat to be won by another first time winner Travis Clark. The last spot in the C main would be filled by Dwain Welsh who qualified through the D. Welsh made it interesting for eventual winner Junior Cooper who the parlayed his C main win by finishing third in the B behind winner Brian Massey and Greg Hoard. It was a steep uphill climb for Massey as he would find himself dueling with both Sagi and Hoard before finally putting a little distance between himself and the rest of the field for the win. Final Rundown-Brian Massey 1st, Alan Sagi 2nd, Greg Hoard 3rd, Junior Cooper 4th, Travis Clark 5th, Tyler Williamson 6th.

Reitnauer Confronts His Nightmare At The Cave

I will prepare and someday my chance will come-Abraham Lincoln. Budd Reitnauer picked a bad night to try and win his first feature at The Cave. With the likes of '07 Nightmare winners Mike Parrill Sr, '06 Black Friday winner Alan Sagi, '09 Earl Grimm Memorial winner Dwain Welsh, and reigning Little World 100 winner Steve Welsh making up a field of 22 drivers tuning up for The World, and setting their sights on The Nightmare. Right out of the gate Reitnauer would set third fast time behind Joe Shifflett and eventual fast time setter Alan Sagi (2.34). Sagi and Shifflett would waste little time advancing to the A Main, winning the first two heats respectively. Reitnauer would claim the third heat as his own and Matt Williamson came out on top of the fourth. If you didn't make the feature through the heats your back was against the wall, with four mains acting as last chances for 18 drivers. The E Main saw Doug Tolley outlast Joe Saunders to advance to the D Main with Rick Williamson topping the field to gain entrance to the C Main. With four drivers fighting it out for the win, Mike Parrill Jr. had to flex a little muscle to claim the top spot. The B Main however turned out to be whole different animal for the drivers due largely in part to the high number of drivers making up four heat races meaning only two would transfer to the A Main. Mike Nail and Tyler Williamson held on tight to the top two spots to punch the last two tickets available to the big show. The feature would be nothing short of amazing, prompting veteran racer Rick Williamson to comment the it was the best racing he had seen since the '07 World where four racers were on the lead lap. With the laps counting down, Reitnauer would keep his brand new #44 Moon Shiner chassis in the groove to hold off a very determined Alan Sagi and Matt Williamson by one lap to take home his very first victory at The Cave Speedway. The final rundown- 1st Budd Reitnauer, 2nd Alan Sagi, 3rd Matt Williamson, 4th Mike Nail, 5th Tyler Williamson, 6th Joe Shifflett.

1/17/09 Hoard King Of The Hill

Greg Hoard picked up his first victory at The Cave Speedway on Saturday night taking home the checkered flag in The 1st Annual Null Machine Shop 600. In a race where many different factors come into play, Hoard was seemingly on his way to an easy victory until Brian Massey charged to the top to give Hoard a run for his money. However Massey would eventually fall victim to the round robin rotation and be forced to watch helplessly as in the end, Hoard would claim the top spot by only one lap. The final rundown (out of a possible 600) Greg Hoard 590, Brian Massey 589, Tyler Williamson 581, Mike Parrill Sr. 575, Dwain Welsh 558, Doug Tolley 555, Rick Williamson 540, Andy Kirby 532, Matt Williamson 516, Budd Reitnauer 510.

1/9/09 Welsh Stays Hot, Sagi Sprints To Finish

Dwain Welsh continued his winning ways tonight following up his Earl Grimm Memorial win with a victory over fast qualifier Alan Sagi, Rick Williamson, Mike Nail, Tyler Williamson, and Matt Williamson. Alan Sagi, not wanting to be outdone, topped the Sprints over Matt Williamson, Dwain Welsh, Andy Kirby, and Budd Reitnauer.

Welsh Honors Late Friend, Captures Earl Grimm Memorial

Dwain Welsh of Winchester Virginia took home his first ever trophy race this past Saturday, and if that weren't special enough, the race was The 5th Annual Earl Grimm Memorial, a race that pays tribute to his late friend. But there would be no shortage of challenges from quick time setter Alan Sagi, an unretired Joe Shifflett, and a whole family of Williamson's. Getting to the A main would prove to be no small task as the first heat would eventually turn into an every man for himself nailbiter between Rick Williamson and Alan Sagi with Williamson barely edging out Sagi to claim the coveted pole position for the feature. The second heat saw Joe Shifflett rocket to the lead and punch his ticket for the big show with Tyler Williamson taking the checkered to win the third and final heat. Budd Reitenauer fought his way up the ladder from the D main to the C, only to be outlastd by the Maryland Outlaw Bobby Jones. The B main was packed with heavy hitters as Alan Sagi and Dwain Welsh finishing first and second, with Matt Williamson completing the field for what would be a very entertaining A main. The double points, double distance feature would see Rick Williamson take the lead early on with Sagi, Shifflett, and Welsh all biding their time. Williamson and Sagi would both falter down the stretch leaving it to Welsh and Shifflett to battle each other for the trophy with Welsh finally breaking through to claim his first ever trophy at The Cave Speedway. The Final Rundown-Dwain Welsh 1st, Joe Shifflett 2nd, Rick Williamson 3rd, Matt Williamson 4th, Tyler Williamson 5th, Alan Sagi 6th
