March 31, 2006 Race Results

The quickest qualifier of the night was once again Matt, turning a 2.424 second lap and earning the pole position in Heat #1 at The Cave Friday night. The rest of the line-up for Heat #1 was Rick, Tim S. and Tim D. Matt held off the other drivers to win Heat #1 followed by Rick, Tim S. and Tim D. Heat #2 had JP on the pole with Dwain, Mike P. and Travis rounding out the field. JP took the win in Heat #2. The B-Main was a close one with the top four finishers transferring to the feature. They were Mike P., Tim S., Rick and Dwain. Matt and JP battled each other for the lead in the first few segments but Matt started opening up a sizeable lead over the field and never looked back, leading the race from start to finish. Bragging rights for second was a toss up right up to the end with a four way tie for second until the last few laps were completed. Matt wins the feature and puts his name on the "Race of Champions" list for next year. The final run down was: 1st - Matt; 2nd - Rick; 3rd - Dwain; 4th - JP; 5th - Tim S.; 6th - Mike P. Next week ends the regular racing schedule at The Cave as the Birthday Bash scheduled for April 14th has been cancelled. Racing this summer will be decided on a week to week basis. Stay tuned to the web site for weekly information.

Race Results - 3/24/2006

On the eve of opening night at the local dirt track, the car count was low again Friday night with nine drivers on hand for competition. Matt was once again the quickest qualifier with a lap time of 2.416 seconds. The win in Heat #1 went to Mikey and Heat #2 was won by Mike F. The top four transfer spots coming from the B-Main went to Matt, JP, Tyler and Rick. In the feature, Mikey and JP swap the lead several times. At one time JP faded back to fourth but rebounded to regain the lead in the third 18-lap segment. Mikey stays close on JP's bumper and makes the pass for the lead in the last segment while Matt comes up to take the second position away from JP. Mikey holds Matt off by only one lap and takes the win. The final run-down was: 1st - Mikey; 2nd - Matt; 3rd - JP; 4th - Mike F.; 5th - Tyler and 6th - Rick. Great job Mikey! You may have the unofficial title of "Rookie of the Year". This may have been the final points race of the season with two more races left. Stay tuned for any future announcements.

Results of Bentonville 200 and Race of Champions

The car count was down due to the start of the local dirt track racing season but the enthusiasm and excitement level was still high at "The Cave" Friday night as eight drivers qualified. Matt was once again the quickest qualifier with a lap time of 2.506 seconds which earned him the coveted starting pole position in Heat #1. Matt and JP raced each other hard all night and it began in Heat #1 where Matt held on for the win. The second quickest qualifier, Dwain, started on the pole in Heat #2. Rick was the winner of Heat #2. The B-Main was run next after giving late arrival Tim S., who tacked onto the rear of the field, a few practice laps. The top four would transfer to the feature. The finishing order was: JP, Tyler, Mikey, and Tim S., filling out the field for the Bentonville 200, and then Mike P., Dwain, and Mike F. (motor problems). The Race of Champions was next up on the schedule. This race involved six past winners at "The Cave" and they were: Tim S., JP, Jeremy, Tyler, Mike F. and Mikey. Jeremy was a "no show" as he was busy putting the final touches on his 4-cylinder. Great looking car by the way, Jeremy. Good luck this season! Tim S. had been away from "The Cave" for a few months but was able to come back for the Race of Champions. As the race started Tim S. didn't show any signs of being rusty as he held his own along side JP. But as the laps wore down, JP held on to the lead and took the title adding his name to the "Masters" list (previous Race of Champion winner) for the second time. The final run down of the Race of Champions was: 1st - JP; 2nd - Tim S.; 3rd - Mikey; 4th - Mike F. and 5th - Tyler. It was now time for the inaugural running of the "Bentonville 200", consisting of six 35-lap segments. Having won Heat #1, Matt found himself sitting on the pole. The cars started out at a furious pace with the laps clicking off quickly as there were few "cautions". Matt and JP seemed to be tied together as they raced each other and battled for the early lead. One lap separated them at the halfway mark as they swapped the lead back and forth several times. During the 5th 35-lap segment JP opened up a slight lead of 2 laps. This gap widened by 4 laps starting the last segment but Matt wasn't giving up. As the last laps wound down, Matt had come back to within two laps. Unfortunately, he ran out of laps before he ran out of determination. JP wins the first running of the "Bentonville 200". It was a close race after running 210 laps. The final finishing order was: 1st - JP; 2nd - Matt; 3rd - Tyler; 4th - Rick; 5th - Mikey; and 6th - Tim S. Since it was St. Patrick's Day and JP took home all the trophys of the night by winning the Race of Champions and the Bentonville 200, maybe we should start calling him "J.P. "Patty" O'Welsh" since he apparently had the luck of the Irish on his side Friday night! Well, on second thought.....maybe we won't!

Race Results 3/10/06

Saturday's upcoming Winchester Speedway car show affected the car count at The Cave Speedway Friday night as several drivers were no shows because they were working on their "other" race cars getting them ready for the show. The 11 drivers that did compete found the track surface at The Cave to be a slick one and some cars dealt with the track conditions better than others. Qualifying times were a good indication of just how slick the track was as all the times were considerably off the mark. A 2.552 second lap time was good enough for Matt to hold on to the top qualifier spot. Heat #1 had a full field of strong cars and the young gun, Mikey, took an early lead and held on for the win. Tyler was the winner of Heat #2. The 9-car B-Main was yet another example of how the drivers were having a hard time getting a handle on the track surface with the cars having trouble getting through the turns. The top four positions would transfer to the feature. They were: JP, Matt, Nick and Dwain, just beating Mike P. for that final transfer spot by a matter of inches. This would be Nick's first feature event. Way to go, Nick! Mikey started on the pole in Lane #1 and he and Tyler would battle hard for the lead through the first three 18-lap segments. They stayed within one lap of each other through the fourth segment while Dwain was moving up through the field. Mikey's lead started to open up during the next to last segment and he never looked back, taking his first feature win by a margin of six laps over second place Tyler and earning the title of The Cave's youngest feature winner to date. Great job, Mikey! As the season has progressed you could tell that he was destined to end up in Victory Lane as each week he got a little closer and closer to his goal. Mikey was also the 6th different driver to win a feature event setting up a full field for a Race of Champions to be run next Friday night. It should be a great race! The final finishing order was: 1st - Mikey; 2nd - Tyler; 3rd - Dwain; 4th - Matt; 5th - JP; and 6th - Nick. The first ever "Bentonville 200" trophy race (and the last trophy race of the season) will be on tap for next Friday night at The Cave with qualifying beginning at 7:30 SHARP! All drivers are urged to get to the track early so racing can begin promptly at 7:30. Come be a part of the excitement as the Winter Points Season at The Cave starts to wind down. Does Tyler have time to chase JP down in the points with only four races left or will Mike F. be the spoiler? Come find out at The Cave, where REAL racers go to hibernate!

Race Results for March 3, 2006

Twelve drivers were on hand Friday night at The Cave Speedway. Matt was the quickest qualifier of the night with a 2.340 second lap. Heat #1 and Heat #2 were won by a father and son duo, Dwain and JP, respectively. The C-Main saw Rick, Mike F., Randy, Chris and Andrew fighting for the chance to tack on to the end of the B-Main with Mike F. winning the battle. The B-Main had Nick, Mikey, Matt, Tyler, Lee and Mike F. running for the four spots that would transfer to the feature. Those four positions went to Mikey, Tyler, Matt and Mike F. Living up to The Cave's reputation, the feature proved to be yet another close race. In the first 18-lap segment Dwain, JP and Tyler swapped the lead four times. There were 8 lead changes all together with only three laps separating 1st through 4th position when the final lap was completed. JP emerged the race winner. Here is the final run down: 1st - JP; 2nd - Tyler; 3rd - Mike F.; 4th - Matt; 5th - Mikey and Dwain, who started on the pole, finished 6th after having trouble with a broken wire. Racing action will continue next Friday at 7:30 P.M.
